In the late 70’s Brent spent a good part of one summer kayaking with two of the best kayakers in the world on fjords in southern Norway. They swore by this new ‘Lifa’ long underwear, which cost $8, when cotton T-shirts were selling for 3 bucks. (even in Norway. ) So he bought some Lifa, his first Helly Hansen product. It was and still is a great innovation.
After years of focusing mostly on kayaking and skiing, at about age 30 Brent decided he should try to get a real job. So he got an MBA from University of Washington, thinking he would keep his passions for water and snow separate from his occupation. It didn’t happen. He then spent a long time at K2 as VP/GM of the K2 and Ride snowboard brands, a few years as GM of North America for Northwave, and most recently the last 9 years as Director of Sales for Helly Hansen. All have been great brands, but the pure longevity of Helly Hansen (141 years) makes us more stewards than employees.
